Jack Lunn (Properties) Ltd is a third-equity partner in a consortium known as LiLAC (Leeds Independent Living Accommodation Company) along with specialist housing provider Progress Care Housing Association and facilities management specialists Powerminster Gleeson Services, working with Leeds City Council to provide homes and services for members of the community with specialist support needs. Leeds City Council announced the LiLAC consortium as preferred bidder for the £80 million Independent Living Project, which will improve life for over 340 adults and 100 children across the city.
The project aims to deliver modern new homes for adults with learning disabilities or mental health needs and disabled children who currently live in 13 hostels across the city, allowing them to live closer to their own communities in smaller, less institutional and more independent settings.
In all, 75 purpose-designed properties will be built for adults on 41 sites across Leeds, following the go-ahead for the government-approved and Private Finance Initiative-funded project. The homes will be modern flexible accommodation suited to the needs of the people using the properties and giving them as much independence as possible. Jack Lunn (Properties) Ltd’s sister company Jack Lunn (Construction) Ltd will be appointed as contractor and will manage the building phase.
Care has been taken to design these homes to be attractive and to meet special needs. This includes consideration for the end users such as attractive entrance doors, plenty of storage rooms, and areas for personal or religious belongings that are special to service users. The designs allow for as much natural light and air as possible and each home will have an energy efficient heating system with easy-to-use controls to save energy costs. Safety and security is also a priority and includes features such as video entry phones and safe and secure gardens encouraging users to be independent.
Building commenced in June 2008 and has a completion date of June 2011
